About this artwork
For this piece, I explored the interplay of light and shadow through rich, blazing hues of orange and red against profound blacks. The painting pulses with a life of its own, suggesting an eternal flame or a celestial nebula. This work is an ode to the raw, untamed forces that shape both the cosmos and the human spirit, capturing a moment of both creation and dissolution. It will add a bold, thought-provoking aura to your home, inviting viewers to… pause and reflect on the larger forces at play in the universe.
I lived in New Mexico for a little while. This piece is inspired by cave dwellings. Upon leaving the brightness outside to enter a cave, you are engulfed in darkness. You may have no clue what is before you. As you begin to acclimate, the relative lighting starts to shape the space, providing hints of the space that you are in. The idea of layers of memory is also at play here. Brighter spots can be seen as a spark, or an idea -- illumination both literally and symbolically.
« I think art is a way in. It is an equalizer, no matter where you come from, or what language you speak. Now, more than ever, we must recognize that inter-connectedness. »
Anne Cherubim is an artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in several solo and group exhibitions nationally. Her works explore themes relating to the environment and stewardship of the planet. However, Cherubim is also fascinated by the essence of a place, rather than a perfect rendering. She favors bold acrylic colors in her creative process.
