About this artwork
I wanted a celebration of the mask, mystery, and splendor by evoking an imaginary ball where fabulous creatures and mythical figures, half-human, half-symbolic, meet. The peacock and the flamingo embody beauty, vanity, and exoticism, while the masked figures suggest the play of hidden identities, artifice, and the theater of life.
The golden circles, similar to suns or moons, confer a cosmic dimension: this carnival seems to take place in a timeless… universe, a sacred space where ornamentation becomes language.
I wanted my painting to exude joy, brilliance and mystery, but it also leaves an aura of strangeness, as if behind the colorful celebration there was an enigma that only the masks know.
FLOD, a French painter and sculptor based in Spain, works mainly in painting using dot art, spirals and gold; she draws on a self-taught background and studies at the Beaux-Arts in Avignon. Her technique lies between the abstract and the figurative, she gives herself entirely to this indefinite sphere which requires both poetry and mastery of technique. She favors a symbolic, unreal and poetic approach; each work, singular, honors the magic of colors and the generosity of the material. She infuses her art with dreams, escape, and a vibrant joy, deeply touching the soul of the spectator.
