About this artwork
This work is about carnival and what the festival is about. It is a time of merrymaking, bringing everyone together, making new friends, making peace with one another. There are two portraits, one on the left hand side wearing a mask and the other on the right hand side in a reflective mood. Both faces have massive head gears on and huge attires from the neck downwards. The figure almost to the middle has been adorned a colourful attire with designs… in the form of huge feathers protruding from the back of the dress. He painted beach huts with coconut trees and the sun in the background to give an indication of holiday time.
« I am an artist with a unique voice that has range, power, and discipline. »
Jacob Kwesi Bennett is an artist based in the United Kingdom whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in his native Ghana, Slovenia, the United States, and Italy. His main objective is to create something of beauty that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Bennett's figurative compositions are representational, rendered in a "stylized and idealized way". He weaves symbolism, allegory, indirect references, and esoteric purpose within each of his pieces.
