About this artwork
To continue the Play of Colors series, here is Royal Blue
👑. I really love playing cards. The symbolism they contain, the mystery and dignity that emanate from the portraits... Fascinating. So it was quite natural that inspiration came.
Despite its small size, this painting really gave me a hard time finding "the right blue," the right shade. I was looking for a deep blue. Proud yet magnanimous. A grand (royal) blue. Or at least that's how I imagine… it.
I positioned, of course, the king of hearts. As much for the contrast of colors as for the warmth that emanates from it.
The colors (white, red, orange, gold) and the graphics of the cards are simple and straightforward. I wasn't aiming for geometric perfection in the design. You can still have fun spotting the differences if you like! You'll need to check off all the elements, which are all dissimilar.
Ophélie Simonet, also known as KOA, is a self-taught painter born in 1987 in La Rochelle, France. Inspired by pop culture, 90s nostalgia, and her synesthesia, she favors a neo-pop, minimalist, and colorful technique, enriched by a naive style that celebrates the childlike nature of art while challenging academic conventions. Through a playful and quirky energy, her works radiate good vibes and invite us to rediscover the audacity of simplicity, awakening the child within each of us and instilling contagious joy. KOA is a member of the Taylor Foundation, listed on Artprice. She exhibits and sells her works in France and internationally.
