About this artwork
"Eat me, eat me..." went the song. However, it's not certain that you should eat mushrooms with such bright colors if you happen to come across them in the woods!
However, I suggest you display these in a room of your choice. These whimsical and colorful mushrooms will brighten up your interior and enliven your inner self. And yes, they have that power, quite simply!
For this piece, I didn't start with a sketch as I usually do. This time, I composed… according to my mood. And, for once, I'm quite pleased with the overall harmony of this painting. The colors are cheerful and luminous. The mushrooms perfectly capture that "je ne sais quoi," a blend of strangeness and playfulness, that characterizes them.
It is impossible not to address this subject, having been a confirmed mycophile during childhood (fond memory of my mushroom poster found at the village pharmacy).
Ophélie Simonet, also known as KOA, is a self-taught painter born in 1987 in La Rochelle, France. Inspired by pop culture, 90s nostalgia, and her synesthesia, she favors a neo-pop, minimalist, and colorful technique, enriched by a naive style that celebrates the childlike nature of art while challenging academic conventions. Through a playful and quirky energy, her works radiate good vibes and invite us to rediscover the audacity of simplicity, awakening the child within each of us and instilling contagious joy. KOA is a member of the Taylor Foundation, listed on Artprice. She exhibits and sells her works in France and internationally.
