human nails XXV explores the tension between industrial materiality and organic matter. A suggested human form made of rusty, welded wire nails stands on a disused, brushed barn beam, oscillating between figure and abstract structure.
The sculpture becomes denser towards the top, while it appears to dissolve towards the bottom. Thus, despite its material weight, a peculiar lightness is created, almost a state of suspension.
The nails simultaneously… symbolize stability and transience. Intended as fasteners, their rust already reveals decay. In contrast, the wood represents time and accumulated history.
The work thus becomes a symbol of the tension between transience and permanence.
human nails XXV thus impressively reflects the fragile balance of human existence.
« I have always been fascinated by abstracting the human body in order to depict it in a simple and elegant form. »
Manfred Hellweger is an Austrian sculptor whose works are already represented by collectors worldwide. He is particularly known for his minimalist approach, in which he reduces forms to their essential elements. Hellweger's work embodies the idea that nothing is permanent; everything evolves and changes. Each of his sculptures reflects a deep engagement with the materials and themes he explores. Despite their simplicity, his works are deeply expressive and, by reducing them to the essentials, offer a metaphor for mindfulness and contentment.
