About this artwork
In "Forest Pond," I wanted to transport the viewer to a secluded, light-filled woodland. I employed a classic repoussoir technique, using the strong, dark tree trunks that anchor the foreground to frame the scene. My goal with this device was to immediately pull the viewer's gaze past the richly textured forest floor and into the painting's luminous center.
I lead the viewer's eye across a marshy, vibrant foreground—which I rendered with energetic,… textural strokes of green, ochre, and deep blue—to the titular pond. I painted this body of water to act as a bright mirror, capturing the pale, soft light of the sky in horizontal flashes of white, blue, and pale pink. These reflections contrast beautifully with the deep, shadowed greens of the surrounding foliage. The lively brushwork animates my limited palette to produce a natural scene inspired by my visit to the deep woods of the Babcock Preserve in Greenwich, CT.
My artistic practice is the result of a lifelong dialogue with visual structure. After graduating from RISD and spending over three decades as a Design Director for institutions like Harry N. Abrams, Oxford University Press, and Random House, I understand the mechanics of any image—composition, balance, and the hierarchy of visual information.
For my digital print-on-demand works, I maintain a strict 'Studio Stopover' protocol to ensure museum-grade quality. Unlike standard print-on-demand services, these pieces are first shipped to my Connecticut studio for personal inspection.
Each work is examined for color fidelity, hand-signed, and numbered by me personally. I then assemble a custom 'Care Kit' for the collector, including a detailed explanation of the work and a Certificate of Authenticity.
This meticulous process adds approximately 7–10 days to the delivery timeline, but it ensures that the work you receive meets the highest professional standards of the fine art market.
