About this artwork
The painting depicts a female figure, evoking the image of an odalisque, seated or semi-reclining in a pose of deep reflection or waiting. The woman has her hands supporting her head, and her gaze is directed downwards, accentuating the sense of introspection suggested by the title. The lower part of her body is wrapped in a deep pink drapery, which creates a strong chromatic contrast with the rest of the composition.
The figure is painted in shades… of blue and turquoise, almost as if it were a precious sculpture, and its body is enriched with intricate organic and abstract shapes outlined in gold. These golden veins give the impression of a mapped or decorated body, adding an element of mystery and visual richness. The figure's hair is an interesting mix of purple and dark blue. The background is a vibrant field of yellow and orange, punctuated by spots and irregular shapes of light blue and white, which pick up and amplify the same forms.
« "Every sign traced, and sound emitted by me, always arouses the same amazement and emotions as if all this were for the first time." »
