About this artwork
With this terracotta sculpture, I wanted to convey a strong impression of introspection, of an individual's meditative reflection. The choice of a geometric, almost faceted form makes it original and distinctive while remaining figurative. The separate surfaces are the cracks of life, the pieces of one's own stories held together. The forms of the body and the rocky seat are similar and connected, a symbiosis between man and nature, an inseparable…
relationship. The drawn-up legs and upward gaze evoke a moment of deep thought or inspiration within the artist, a dialogue within himself or with the infinite. Despite the stylization, the proportions are balanced, and the gaze glides across the surfaces. The sculpture is powerful, mature, compact, and symbolic; it may recall Rodin, but this modern version stands out completely, occupying a much more natural position. It was created from gray clay in a single, continuous movement, constructed in a "colombino" style.
