About this artwork
This bronze sculpture of mine demonstrates a synthesis between figuration and abstraction. From a distance, it appears like a swirling form, but upon closer inspection, the meaning is clear: a female head forcefully emerging from the water, dragging gathered locks of her hair. A sense of purification and lightness emerges, with the mind seemingly merging with the liquid, body and nature, thought and feeling. The open mouth and upward gaze suggest…
a sense of wonder, song, and a spiritual, dreamlike connection. The shape of the face is delicate, almost ethereal, yet is counterbalanced by a dynamic force radiating from the back of the head. The bronze has a polished, smooth surface that captures and reflects light in a controlled manner. The polished black Belgian marble base provides a good visual contrast and enhances the sculpture without distracting. The face is not hyperrealistic, but it is nevertheless profoundly expressive.
