The pixel pittorico — fragments of colour applied with a palette knife, red, violet, white, black — breaks down and recomposes the face within a structure that reveals it without confining it to a defined outline. Up close, pure matter and chromatic tension. Stepping back, a presence that fills the entire space.
The eyes remain whole. They are the one thing the grid cannot fragment.…
Why? The question is in the title, and in the work itself. Addressed to whoever looks. Addressed to whoever built the bars. Addressed to everything that holds back when it could open instead. The fragment here does not liberate — it bears witness. And bearing witness is already an act of freedom.
This work has been exhibited in several solo and group shows, published in catalogues and art magazines, and was the painting that inspired American bassist Alphonso Johnson to commission the cover artwork for his album Metaphors.

« In a time when superficial glances seem incapable of perceiving the nuances of life, I try to synthesize a thousand tensions of my feelings and those of the world. »
I am an Italian contemporary painter. Born in Southern Italy, I spent years moving through structures that did not represent me — economics degree, corporate work, even politics. Always searching for myself, and for freedom. At forty, painting emerged as a necessity, the place where the search for myself became a pictorial one. My language is the pictorial pixel — fragments of color applied with a palette knife, breaking down and recomposing images. Up close, the works appear abstract. Stepping back, figures, faces, and urban landscapes reveal themselves — unfolding connections and possibilities. Exhibited nationally and internationally, my works are held in private collections in Europe and the United States, and include a cover of musician Alphonso Johnson's album.
In a time that accelerates, simplifies, divides, and flattens, my art offers a space where complexity is value, fragment possibility, and sharing completion. A space where anyone can feel welcomed for who they are.
