For the ship's hull, the author used the end of a type of beam that is typically used to support the roof of mountain cabins, turning it up/down and adding two supports into which he inserted a series of poles to simulate oars. He made the sail with a cork surface, light but tough as was its meaning. Black because the myth tells that Theseus, returning to Athens from the Cretan expedition in which he had killed the Minotaur, forgot to replace the… black sail - which would have indicated the failure of the expedition and his death - with the white one which would have communicated the success of the enterprise to his father Aegeus, king of Athens. Out of desperation Aegeus committed suicide by jumping into the sea which has since taken his name.
Also on the ship is the Minotaur's sister, Ariadne, who had helped Theseus by giving him the thread to extricate himself in the labyrinth. The author imagines her full of horror and pity for what she had done.
« In my design, there has always been an idea of three-dimensionality which then naturally became the design of three-dimensional objects. »
