About this artwork
In this painting, I am pleased to reveal the immensity of the flesh, which, stretched out in apparent tranquility, exhibits human fragility. The figure lies like a sprawled body on a subtly decorated bed, its pale nudity contrasting with the orange background, as if such stillness contained a whisper of irony. Every fold, every curve, reveals the weight of idleness and the irreverence of repose, which is not always relief but, at times, a mockery…
of the incessant beat of time. In this way, "Bartola Lying" reveals to me the uncertain balance between indolence and conscience, transforming leisure into a rebellious gesture against the haste that devours the days.
