About this artwork
In 2017 I had a memorable trip to Norway which included a day spent on a half size replica of Amundsen's boat.
It was an authentic wooden fishing boat. I enjoyed taking pictures of the sails, but didn't pay much attention to their potential beyond the initial images.
In 2022, stimulated by the former Covid restrictions, I was beginning to create abstractions from Multiple Exposure images both in camera and composed afterwards, and realised that… the sails provided suitable material for this too.
I took three images of sails and worked on the mixture and blend and to my great surprise all these incredible colours appeared. I added no colour at all, but the blending process allows the emergence of colours not seen by the naked eye. This image has also been made into a most beautiful silk wrap.
