About this artwork
In France there is an area where fishing takes place in an old fashioned way. The use of nets dropped into the water and left is something men have done for centuries. This picture shows one such net supported by a fisherman's hut on stilts standing in the water. I loved the simplicity of the idea, but noticed that the net has significant defects such that it would be an unlucky fish that is permanently caught. The use of the hut as a fisherman's… 'hangout' was apparent, because as I watched several men were visible, smoking and drinking and chatting together, while in fact taking little notice of the presence or absence of fish. Nonetheless the simplicity of the picture pleases me.
Kate Lloyd is a photographer trained under acclaimed artists, most notably Jonathan Chritchley of Ocean Capture. She employs abstract and verismo styles, using multiple exposures to transform images of horses, water, and Venetian scenes into vibrant compositions, often presented as acrylics or luxury silk scarves. Her work radiates a profound appreciation for the untamed spirit of horses and the luminous mystery of water, evoking both tranquility and wonder.
