About this artwork
This image is part of the series "When Stones Speak." In the Witches' Forest on Rügen, I found a small fieldstone house whose skin begins to speak in the soft forest light. Round boulders, rough cuboids, bright joints: a grammar of rhythm, edge, and calm. The small window with its cross grille marks the threshold—protection within, undergrowth outside.
I work with reduced tonal values and tight detail to reveal texture, broken edges, and traces… of mortar; the fern on the base is the quiet countervoice of time. I'm interested in the speaking aspect of the material: stones as memory, storing moisture, wind, and use. Thus, the house becomes less a structure than a voice—a dialogue of duration and growth, of silence and response.
