About this artwork
Flower I is part of my series "Scrapboard," in which I explore familiar symbols and the loss of their self-evidence. The flower is one of the simplest and yet most well-known pictorial symbols. It represents beauty, growth, and vitality.
However, I am less interested in the flower as a motif than in the question of what happens when a seemingly unambiguous symbol loses its certainty. The form remains recognizable, but appears fragile and open.… Visible traces of the painting process and minor uncertainties alter the perception of the familiar symbol.
The work moves between symbolic imagery and contemporary oil painting. A simple sign becomes an image about change, vulnerability, and the beauty of imperfection.
