Flower III belongs to my series "Scrapboard," in which I explore familiar symbols and their transformation. The flower is one of the most recognizable symbols of all time. It represents beauty, growth, and vitality. Precisely because its meaning seems so self-evident, I am interested in its painterly reinterpretation.
In this painting, the flower remains clearly recognizable, yet simultaneously appears open and vulnerable. The simplified form,… visible reworkings, and traces of the painting process alter the perception of this familiar motif. What initially seems simple develops a greater depth and openness.
I am interested in the moment when familiar symbols lose their unambiguous meaning. The flower remains as a symbol, but detaches itself from fixed meanings. This creates space for personal memories, associations, and new interpretations.
The work moves between symbol, drawing and contemporary oil painting.
