The 61st of the Arch series is carved in basswood and finished with paste wax, buffed to a satin sheen. This wood sculpture was developed on paper first before being extrapolated into its present 3-dimensional form. Sketching this form was rather intuitive, the form having been "trying" to emerge onto the paper for some time in slightly different versions, until this present form emerged onto the sketch pad. As soon as I saw it, the decision to make… it was a natural one. The conceptual direction is that of "simple refinement"; also, of continuity, structural essence (as is the arch form), balance and charm. As with the majority of the Arch forms, it consists of 2 parts in connection with the ground (the metaphorical source of Being); this connection ultimately uniting the form in non-duality.

Mike Sasaki, based in BC, Canada, creates abstract metaphysical sculptures with a keen affinity for drawing and carving. His tools and techniques, curated from international traditions, imbue his sculptures with a unique blend of organic, curvilinear and geometric elements. Profoundly inspired by metaphysics, Sasaki’s artwork resonates with a sense of unity, groundedness, and the constant-interaction between form and formlessness; eliciting feelings tied to our boundless potential for love, joy, and spiritual liberation.
