The sculptures in the Bipod series take the form of two apparently separate parts, which ultimately resolve in harmonious union. The freestanding forms highlight and question the nature and role of dualism in everyday perception. Bipod No. 17 is carved from fir wood which exhibits pronounced grain contrast and which, after waxed and buffed, settles into a warm, copper-like hue.
I feel the two parts of this piece are engaged in a charming dialogue… which “unbeknownst to them" is encompassed with a greater field of love, wholeness and compassion.
The sculpture is carved using hand tools with meticulous care and precision, then sanded smooth before waxing. It stands on any flat surface and will work well in a wide variety of different lighting arrangements.
Mike Sasaki, based in BC, Canada, creates abstract metaphysical sculptures with a keen affinity for drawing and carving. His tools and techniques, curated from international traditions, imbue his sculptures with a unique blend of organic, curvilinear and geometric elements. Profoundly inspired by metaphysics, Sasaki’s artwork resonates with a sense of unity, groundedness, and the constant-interaction between form and formlessness; eliciting feelings tied to our boundless potential for love, joy, and spiritual liberation.
