Reminiscent of Crescent No.1 and No.2, the crescent form offsets the slightly more organic round body. In Permeable Existence No.4, the body is pierced providing the main negative contrast. As in most of the wood forms, the space is given roughly equal importance as the material. This main visual theme results in balanced and tranquil solutions. The piece was nearly titled under the "Non-Local Movement" series because the opening in the body moves… contrary to the main directional movement and could perhaps instill a feeling of halting and dissolution. This dissolving, as if into a different non-physical arena, is also the main idea the "Permeable Existence" concept refers to, and so this piece has adopted this title.
The freestanding form requires a stable and flat surface placement.
Mike Sasaki, based in BC, Canada, creates abstract metaphysical sculptures with a keen affinity for drawing and carving. His tools and techniques, curated from international traditions, imbue his sculptures with a unique blend of organic, curvilinear and geometric elements. Profoundly inspired by metaphysics, Sasaki’s artwork resonates with a sense of unity, groundedness, and the constant-interaction between form and formlessness; eliciting feelings tied to our boundless potential for love, joy, and spiritual liberation.
