Carved from a single piece of wood, Permeable Existence No.5 is left with its naturally whole wood surface polished with fine grit sandpaper. The light wood colour holds deep shadows in contrast with the illuminated surfaces. The continuously curving surface ensures a delicate play of light and shadow in every lighting arrangement. The opening upon opening imbues the form with multilayered depth both visually and conceptually. Upon navigating the… piece, its openness invites the viewer to explore the inner space of the form which also serves as a metaphor for that inner space in all objects and existence. That space, inseparable from the tangible and indeed permeating all through its non-local power, is at once both form and formless.

Mike Sasaki, based in BC, Canada, creates abstract metaphysical sculptures with a keen affinity for drawing and carving. His tools and techniques, curated from international traditions, imbue his sculptures with a unique blend of organic, curvilinear and geometric elements. Profoundly inspired by metaphysics, Sasaki’s artwork resonates with a sense of unity, groundedness, and the constant-interaction between form and formlessness; eliciting feelings tied to our boundless potential for love, joy, and spiritual liberation.
