Invisibility No.3 is a wall piece where negative space and positive space share the spotlight. Carved in poplar wood and reminiscent of the Arch series of sculptures (see shop), the wall relief engages with the backdrop to form a two-layered, integrated art piece. I have found that the piece works well on white, ideally with a slight texture. A brown wood wall may work nicely as well. And, depending on the lighting arrangement, a dark grey, charcoal… or even black may be produce favourable results. The wall matching options are limitless. I hope it is a enjoyable process finding a wall to closely integrate with the artwork. The interplay of material and absence creates an optically and conceptually engaging work where the textured surfaces and edges add even more depth to this peaceful and contemplative composition.
Poplar wood will darken gradually over years with exposure to sunlight.
Mike Sasaki, based in BC, Canada, creates abstract metaphysical sculptures with a keen affinity for drawing and carving. His tools and techniques, curated from international traditions, imbue his sculptures with a unique blend of organic, curvilinear and geometric elements. Profoundly inspired by metaphysics, Sasaki’s artwork resonates with a sense of unity, groundedness, and the constant-interaction between form and formlessness; eliciting feelings tied to our boundless potential for love, joy, and spiritual liberation.
