This work of mine stems from a desire to unite matter and light, transforming recycled materials into something precious. I chose to work with brass, a metal that, while not as noble as gold, manages to reflect the same elegance and warmth when bathed in light. The resulting shape is an incomplete, imperfect circle, like a veiled moon or a face of which only a single line can be seen.
I wanted to create not just a painting, but a sculpture: something… with body, weight, and presence. The irregular surface, the cavities, and the textures of the brass tell the story of the material's transformation, the passage from waste to work, from shadow to luminosity. It's a work that seeks preciousness not in luxury, but in essence; in imperfection that becomes beauty, like the trace of a life that continues to shine.
Silvana Di Vora, a self-taught artist, uses watercolor, acrylic on canvas, and scrap materials to create works brimming with light and movement. She experiments with figurative and abstract art, using rapid brushstrokes and intense monochromes, highlighting the three-dimensionality and luminosity of unexpected details. Her works, often melancholic and dynamic, convey that even from darkness, the most intense light and vibrant color can emerge, instilling vitality and hope in the viewer.
