About this artwork
Faces 4 is one of my more intimate portraits—sized at 110 by 90 cm, it’s large enough to hold presence, yet small enough to draw the viewer closer. In this work, the face doesn’t just emerge from the abstraction—it confronts you directly.
The expression is quiet, almost contemplative. Built from overlapping planes of warm ochres, deep purples, cool blues, and flashes of white, the portrait forms gradually as you move. I wanted the emotion to rise… slowly—not from detail, but from tension between colors, between clarity and dissolve.
Unlike the layered multiplicity in Faces 1, or the spiritual gaze of Faces 2, this face feels grounded, aware. It holds its shape longer, but not fully—it’s always shifting, asking you to look again.
This work was about balance: between stillness and motion, identity and mystery. It was painted not to speak loudly, but to linger. Something familiar, something human, just beneath the surface—waiting to be seen.
