About this artwork
In this oil painting I capture the essence of urban nightlife, where the play of light and shadow breathes life into the scene. Two young women are on their way into the still young evening. Cars and cyclists can be seen in the background. The leaves in the foreground cast shadows on the pavement. The bridge under which the scene takes place will soon be demolished, and the small clubs that were located here also had to close. Like many people in… my city of Hamburg, I think this is a shame and not right. I often went here to take photos with my smartphone so that I could paint pictures. The template for this picture was created in a second of turning around on the way home. I like the relaxed - elegant posture of the young woman on the right. This picture will bring a lively yet thoughtful atmosphere to any home.
« The process of color-sensitive, soft, slow painting contrasts with the speed and indifference of everyday life. I take part of my surroundings and make art out of it. »
The perception of Ulla Kutter's environment is shaped by the focus on disharmonious compositions and their aesthetics. The German painter portrays the broken, chaotic, and shining aspects of everyday life in the city. Through her images, she creates possibilities for different levels of perception. Kutter paints using the traditional techniques of old Dutch masters, using oils on canvas.
