About this artwork
This painting is titled “A Distant Warmth”, and it reflects a personal meditation on solitude, longing, and resilience.
I created this piece during a time when I was thinking deeply about the idea of emotional refuge. The blue, dreamlike landscape is cold and vast, almost silent—but in the distance, there’s a single warm glow—a tiny fire next to a bare tree. That fire symbolizes hope, memory, and the quiet strength we carry within. It’s not front… and center—it’s far away—but it’s enough to shift the emotional temperature of the entire painting.
As a self-taught artist, I’m always searching for that balance between emptiness and meaning, stillness and emotion. In this work, I wanted to create a space where viewers can feel the ache of distance, but also the comfort of light—however faint—on the horizon.
This piece is part of a series where I explore landscapes not just as places, but as emotional states—territories shaped by memory, imagination, and inner weather.

Wei Xue is a self-taught artist with a background in mechanical engineering, working fluidly across painting, sculpture, mixed media, and tactile materials such as linen, burlap, and rice paper.
