About this artwork
This painting, titled "Fading Boundaries," explores the fluid relationship between space and identity.
While creating this piece, I envisioned a realm where memory and reality blend—standing between dream and wakefulness, watching space dissolve into shifting light. The flowing blues feel like water, or perhaps air, while the bold orange-red strokes suggest fragments of emotion trying to surface. Human-like figures appear faintly—walking through… an arched hallway or perhaps just traces left behind by time.
I’ve always been drawn to the idea of “boundaries”—between cultures, emotions, memories. This work seeks to blur those lines, inviting the viewer to experience an undefined space shaped by feeling and intuition rather than certainty.
"Fading Boundaries" is part of my ongoing “Dreamscape-Realities” series, and it invites viewers to pause, reflect, and drift into a space where borders vanish and imagination takes over.
Wei Xue is a self-taught artist with a background in mechanical engineering, working fluidly across painting, sculpture, mixed media, and tactile materials such as linen, burlap, and rice paper. She employs abstract expressionism infused with surreal, poetic minimalism, favoring layered textures, torn or stitched surfaces, and organic forms inspired by Eastern aesthetics. Her works are emotionally charged dreamscapes—spaces that pulse with vulnerability, nostalgia, healing, and a profound sense of introspection—inviting viewers into an intimate dialogue with memory and emotion.
