About this artwork
I created this work to draw attention to its emotional intensity and symbolic charge. The monochrome drawing, with its dominant black, creates an atmosphere of deep introspection, accentuated by the figure of the woman wrapped in a dress that hides and protects her. The veil covering her head adds a further layer of mystery, suggesting a detachment from the earthly world and an immersion in spirituality. The halo, a key element of religious iconography,… elevates the figure to a symbol of sanctity or inner enlightenment. The choice of monochrome, with its shades of gray, enhances the plasticity of the figure and its ethereal, almost immaterial presence. The lower portion of the work, colored in red, introduces an element of chromatic contrast that breaks the monotony of black and gray. Red, the color of passion and sacrifice, could symbolize suffering or purification, but also the vital force that emanates from the figure.
Nicola De Luca, an architect from Naples and an artist born in Torre di Ruggiero, expresses his mastery in drawing. Through precise lines and touches of graphite, De Luca creates female portraits of remarkable intensity. His works emanate an intense and mysterious atmosphere, capturing the essence of the human soul through expressive female faces.
