About this artwork
In this piece, Watcher’s Domain, I explore the feeling of being seen and unseen at the same time—of existing in the liminal space between observation and introspection. The angular lines and fragmented forms represent the fractured ways we perceive reality. The large eye-like form suggests a presence—perhaps a divine force, a buried memory, or even our own inner watcher—that observes without judgment but with unwavering attention.
While working… on this painting, I thought a lot about the silent witnesses in our lives: memories, shadows, and subconscious emotions that shape how we move through the world. The monochromatic palette of black and white intensifies the emotional contrast.
This work belongs to my Black and White series, where I strip color away to focus on the architecture of feeling, memory, and structure. Through abstraction, I invite viewers to enter a symbolic landscape and find echoes of their own experiences within it.

Wei Xue is a self-taught artist with a background in mechanical engineering, working fluidly across painting, sculpture, mixed media, and tactile materials such as linen, burlap, and rice paper. She employs abstract expressionism infused with surreal, poetic minimalism, favoring layered textures, torn or stitched surfaces, and organic forms inspired by Eastern aesthetics.
