About this artwork
This work is from my 12-part collage series featuring original musical instruments. The starting point is a bugle from the First World War, which I deformed (flattened) and repurposed as part of a collage. Other elements of the collage include fragments of musical scores, an old 19th-century music collection bound as a book, and a pair of black fishnet stockings with garter bows and floral embroidery. The title of the work, "Maria or the Daughter… of the Regiment," an opera by Gaetano Donizetti, can be read in the open crotch.
In terms of formal aesthetics, it captivates with the morbid charm of transience, plays on upper-middle-class knowledge of music history, and offers a wide range of interpretations, from sublime eroticism to social indictment of the social position of female sutlers in the military. Due to the risk of breakage, the work cannot be shipped via Singulart.
Wolfgang Eberhardt, a passionate painter, discovered his artistic talent through emotional experiences. His figurative works are created through careful use of charcoal, color pigments and binding agents, creating images full of magic and impulse. His art is a bridge of communication, with the aim of reaching the viewer deeply and triggering emotion. With love as his strongest force, he always strives to express true human feelings through his art.
