About this artwork
“Algol” was born from an old painting with which I no longer agreed.
In this work, hair has ceased to be just hair.
They have transformed into organic, almost autonomous forms — somewhere between roots, snakes, and extensions of the nervous system.
The portrait deliberately oscillates between presence and alteration.
The face retains a human softness, but something already seems to be mutating beneath the surface. The tired eyes, unstable contours,… and vibrant textures evoke a state of hypervigilance, as if perception itself were becoming too intense to remain perfectly stable.
The title "Algol" refers to the star historically associated with the head of Medusa — a changing, pulsating star, linked to the idea of transformation and disturbance of the gaze.
