From the Forms Beneath series
A stand of bare winter trees bathed in the amber light of the African lowveld becomes, under examination, something closer to a sacred assembly. In "The Congregation", row upon row of pale trunks and reaching branches form a cathedral colonnade — an architecture of reverence that no human hand designed. The golden warmth of the light transforms the mundane into ceremony. The landscape reveals itself as a place of gathering,… of waiting, of ancient order hiding in plain sight.

Ivan Muller is a South African photographer with over 40 years of experience, formally trained at Tshwane University of Technology and recognized with the Ilford Prize for photography. He employs a minimal, observational technique by mirroring natural forms - such as trees and rock faces - along a vertical axis, producing painterly, fine art giclée prints that straddle documentary realism and psychological depth. His artworks evoke a sense of wonder and revelation, inviting viewers to discover hidden symmetries and deeper realities beneath the ordinary surface of the natural world.
