About this artwork
The Spitzkoppe rises out of the Namibian desert like something left behind deliberately. I was there in the late afternoon when the granite turns a colour that has no good name — somewhere between amber, ochre and fire. A bare tree leaned against the rock face, its branches reaching toward the light.
Then I folded it.
The rock face opened. The two leaning trees framed a space that felt like a place where offerings had been made long before anyone… thought to name it. The golden light at the centre became almost too bright to look at directly.
This is what Forms Beneath is about. Not invention. Discovery. The forms were always there — hidden, as if deliberately, for the reward of a different kind of looking.
