About this artwork
The work shows two strawberry butterflies (Charaxes jasius) perched symmetrically on a flower. In this composition of bright colors, the complex design of the wings stands out, made with clean brush strokes. In many cultures butterflies represent the cycle of life. They also symbolize beauty, metamorphosis, rebirth and change. For the Chinese, two butterflies together refer to love.
Behind them you can see part of an arbutus tree (a tree on which… its caterpillars feed) whose combination of tones created by the leaves, flowers and fruits harmonizes with the butterflies, creating a color consonance between the figure and the background.
I seek to convey a sense of peace and harmony, as well as invoke a deep appreciation for the intricate design of the natural world.
