This artwork embodies movement and transformation. It was important to the artist to capture the dynamic interplay between stability and elegance and to celebrate the beauty of growth and change.
The sculpture was made from a mighty, local cherry tree, which was only sawn into slices after drying for years. Each individual tree slice was sanded completely flat on both surfaces, which were then oiled with two layers of wood oil. This brings out… the lively grain and the strong, reddish-brown color of the cherry wood particularly well. As an additional contrast, the natural tree edge was colored with dark wood stain.
Because each tree disc was always attached slightly offset in one direction, a new, dynamic shape was created for the once straight trunk.
Black granite base: 61 x 57 x 3 cm
Total weight: 120 kg
« I have always been fascinated by abstracting the human body in order to depict it in a simple and elegant form. »
Manfred Hellweger is an Austrian sculptor whose works are already represented by collectors worldwide. He is particularly known for his minimalist approach, in which he reduces forms to their essential elements. Hellweger's work embodies the idea that nothing is permanent; everything evolves and changes. Each of his sculptures reflects a deep engagement with the materials and themes he explores. Despite their simplicity, his works are deeply expressive and, by reducing them to the essentials, offer a metaphor for mindfulness and contentment.
