About this artwork
Paul (130 × 125 cm, 2022) is part of my series "At the End of Green." In this series, I explore the connection between humans and nature by combining abstract painting with organic structures.
I first primed the canvas with thick layers of acrylic paint, into which I incorporated leaves and twigs. After sanding and sealing, I applied fine oil glazes over it. This creates a surface that not only reveals nature but also makes it tangible.
In Paul,… diverse shades of green unfold: light, almost transparent layers and dark, powerful forms that remind me of cloud shadows or a weather front. Like all the works in the series, this one also bears a first name. In doing so, I consciously continue the practice of giving weather phenomena human names.
For me, Paul is a quiet but powerful reflection on the beauty, dynamism and fragility of nature.
