About this artwork
I painted this work in 2019 for my 2020 exhibition Leaps and Bounds / À Pas de Géant, at a point where my palette, knife language had fully consolidated. Executed entirely on Masonite, the surface is constructed through load, drag, and lift, each ridge carrying the record of a decisive gesture.
I now recognise this painting as a key early work in my Ipseity trajectory. The dialogue between endogenous and exogenous forces is already embedded in its… structure, alongside a search for ataraxia, a poised stillness held within movement. It also anticipates About Time, where duration and presence fully emerge.
At 75, living atop Mount Royal in Montreal, I remain committed to the ephemeral, not as effect, but as substance, and to listening closely to what the land offers in return.
