I created this work starting with a smooth acrylic base, drawing the eye toward the center. Instead of traditional paint for the central figure, I assembled a moon made from scraps of mechanical processing: wire, shavings, and sheets that retain the memory of their past work. The surface is rough and layered, yet reflects light with an unexpected metallic sheen.
I left a thin sliver of light touching the edge: it's the part I show, the small illuminated… portion that invites the viewer to simultaneously recognize and ignore. Much of the sphere remains in shadow, dense and luminous, because I believe that what truly matters is not what we show of ourselves, but what remains hidden. Waste matter is a symbol: residue and resource, obscurity and value.
With this work, I pose a question rather than an answer: what we see is only a fraction; the most significant part is what we have yet to discover.
Silvana Di Vora, a self-taught artist, uses watercolor, acrylic on canvas, and scrap materials to create works brimming with light and movement. She experiments with figurative and abstract art, using rapid brushstrokes and intense monochromes, highlighting the three-dimensionality and luminosity of unexpected details. Her works, often melancholic and dynamic, convey that even from darkness, the most intense light and vibrant color can emerge, instilling vitality and hope in the viewer.
