About this artwork
This is one of the images on honeycomb cardboard created by the artist Ulla Kutter. Honeycomb cardboard is otherwise used as packaging material and is very stable. The use of this material was deliberately chosen to bring a recycling aspect into the work of art. Thanks to a deep wooden shadow gap frame, the picture is well protected and optimally presented.
The picture represents an everyday, wintry view of the city. In the foreground you can see… the trees and bushes of an overgrown property, behind them the warm lights of the apartments. The star of the image is the moon, whose light makes it through the thick clouds. Withered leaves can still be seen. The painter sees the beautiful moments of the winter months and captures them. A picture of the first underpainting can also be seen here.
« The process of color-sensitive, soft, slow painting contrasts with the speed and indifference of everyday life. I take part of my surroundings and make art out of it. »
The perception of Ulla Kutter's environment is shaped by the focus on disharmonious compositions and their aesthetics. The German painter portrays the broken, chaotic, and shining aspects of everyday life in the city. Through her images, she creates possibilities for different levels of perception. Kutter paints using the traditional techniques of old Dutch masters, using oils on canvas.
