About this artwork
In this canvas I take pleasure in evoking, in a tone of foreboding and mockery, the miracle of a resurrection that invests the act of standing up with a divine mandate. I represent a character who, plunged into an almost sacred lethargy, finds himself impelled, driven, incited…, to a forced rise, as if such a mandate were allied with the mood of destiny. The composition, in its play of great chromatic contrasts, light and shadow, consecrates the…
gesture of rising in a ritual of contradiction: laziness, which in turn cries out for freedom, is transformed into a sacrilege of inertia. With each stroke, I intend to capture the eternal conflict between resignation and the longed-for redemption, making this rising up a burlesque act that, despite its apparent solemnity, does not escape the biting irony of the human condition.
