About this artwork
'Sheaf 1' refers to the bouquets typically offered at funerals. It was the fascination with these long, withered plants, barely standing out against a ground of leaves in the same hues, that sparked the creation of this painting. The almost hallucinatory interplay of these vertical stems and horizontal leaves, intertwining, demanded a great feat of execution. The circular green ribbon delineates the plants, aiding in their perception and forming… a bouquet. The gentle warmth of the yellow/orange tones precedes the arrival of winter's chill.
Colin Chabot, a Quebec painter from a family of artists, works primarily in acrylic on cotton canvas. He blends hyperrealism and classicism, drawing inspiration from the Old Masters for framing and composing each canvas from several rearranged shots enhanced with spectacular skies. His art poetically bears witness to the tragicomic nature of everyday life and contemporary humanity, while sharing a deep admiration for raw nature.
