About this artwork
I worked part-time for several years as an assistant for my brother Joel, who had an insulation company. We went to various locations, both residential and commercial. This painting depicts the interior of an old aluminum container manufacturing plant where we had completed a small contract. The dilapidated look with its old machinery, dilapidated walls oozing moisture and grease, and the jumble of all kinds of tools appealed to me. I then asked… the boss for permission to return with a camera to take many photos. This included overviews and close-ups of as many details as possible. Some time before, my brother and I had worked on another site, insulating all the windows of a factory from the outside. After our visit, the workers found themselves working in a vacuum under artificial light. This is what I have depicted on the right.
Colin Chabot, a Quebec painter from a family of artists, works primarily in acrylic on cotton canvas. He blends hyperrealism and classicism, drawing inspiration from the Old Masters for framing and composing each canvas from several rearranged shots enhanced with spectacular skies. His art poetically bears witness to the tragicomic nature of everyday life and contemporary humanity, while sharing a deep admiration for raw nature.
