About this artwork
This canvas, half homage, half denunciation of the boulevards of stores that now spread across most of Quebec's major cities, took me four years of research. It is a pure creation, complete with several photographed sites and scattered signs. When the title became clear, I decided to largely truncate the bottom of the businesses to keep only the ads on their poles. They became the main elements to represent the bewitched trees. only well-known brands, true mantras of this end of the century. The biggest part of the work was to build this typical boulevard first, in pencil on cardboard, ad by ad, respecting the perspectives and proportions. Then it was cut into pieces to be traced on the canvas. The cold and agitated autumn sky in extreme variations of gray contrasts with the racy colors of the signs.
