About this artwork
It was a way for me to renew the already over-reproduced landscape by exploiting one of its more austere facets of autumn. After 'The Timeless Season', I tackled this canvas depicting a main road leading in the distance to a house and its barn. In the left-hand section, valleys and hills form graceful arabesques. Despite the usually dull season of late autumn, the yellow/golden hues of the fields, intensified by the brightness of the sky, transfigure… the scene. The landscape becomes magical and seems to belong to another world. The full width of the road in the foreground helps give us the perspective of being there on the scene. The back of an old truck rusts on the left and rebalances the canvas because the main subject of the farm is off-center to the right. Thousands of small touches of color make the dried grass vibrate and make the whole thing almost unreal.
Colin Chabot, a Quebec painter from a family of artists, works primarily in acrylic on cotton canvas. He blends hyperrealism and classicism, drawing inspiration from the Old Masters for framing and composing each canvas from several rearranged shots enhanced with spectacular skies. His art poetically bears witness to the tragicomic nature of everyday life and contemporary humanity, while sharing a deep admiration for raw nature.
