About this artwork
With each new canvas dedicated to autumn fields, the sky is increasingly limited to the top of the frame to give much more importance to the ground. This canvas, which borders on abstraction, reconnects with pure and simple contemplation. A field of cut hay occupies the entire space and only a small farm at the top of the hill gives us a perspective to scale. Since the cut hay was the main challenge, it was painted with dozens of shades, often unreal,… so that each strand, seen from close up, would be made up of a rainbow. An enormous task if ever there was one. To avoid monotony, the tracks of a tractor create arabesques that animate the surface of the field. The curved horizon suggests the curve of the earth and justifies the title. The clouds also form an arch above the farm and thereby make it stand out. The yellow/orange that dominates this field seems ablaze with light.
Colin Chabot, a Quebec painter from a family of artists, works primarily in acrylic on cotton canvas. He blends hyperrealism and classicism, drawing inspiration from the Old Masters for framing and composing each canvas from several rearranged shots enhanced with spectacular skies. His art poetically bears witness to the tragicomic nature of everyday life and contemporary humanity, while sharing a deep admiration for raw nature.
