About this artwork
In this painting, I emphasized the richness of color and texture in a simple tree trunk. The title refers to the columns of a cemetery or mausoleum. Although the main subject is positioned in the very center of the composition and could therefore appear too static, the trunk leans slightly to the left, and a subtle diagonal of light in the background rebalances and creates tension. The yellow leaves on the ground contrast with the same leaves turned… upside down but in purple on the other side (complementary colors), making them appear animated and vibrant.
Colin Chabot, a Quebec painter from a family of artists, works primarily in acrylic on cotton canvas. He blends hyperrealism and classicism, drawing inspiration from the Old Masters for framing and composing each canvas from several rearranged shots enhanced with spectacular skies. His art poetically bears witness to the tragicomic nature of everyday life and contemporary humanity, while sharing a deep admiration for raw nature.
