About this artwork

The Still Ascent was painted with a knife in oil on Masonite, in the miniature format I return to when stepping away from larger works. What begins as a distraction often becomes something more intentional—a space where intuition leads and meaning emerges through texture and form. Layered in cold, muted blues and whites, the suggestion of a mountain rising from a sea of atmosphere is both literal and abstract. The ascent is not one of conquest, but… of stillness—an inward climb, quiet and unresolved. Though small, this piece speaks to something vast. Framed under glass in a black floating frame, it is gently elevated from its backing, like a fragment of the past preserved. The easel photo echoes how I’ve traditionally presented my miniatures, both online and in earlier work.

Though I am creating art, I am evoking an emotion.

In his seventh decade, Venafro has arrived at Ipseity, absolute selfhood, hard-earned and uncompromising.
