About this artwork
The original 'Timewyrm' was created in 1986; 'Timewyrm.2' is a re-visiting of the original on a much larger scale in acrylic. Both are a journey into imagination and the subconscious.
'Timewyrm.2' visuals the hidden symbolic energy within the indigenous spirituality underpining American First Nation animism (top left), the mythical magic of Arthurian legend (The Sword in the Stone, bottom left) to the cross of the Catholic faith. It also portrays… the mysterious flow of thought from subconsciousness to canvas, seen in the journey from the head in the bottom right-hand corner: in weaving such metaphysical elements it aims to stir intrigue and reflection.
Finally, it is a paean to the power of story - see the 'little people' or fairies of childhood and the people living inside 'the mountains of the mind'.
This artwork will bring a dynamic, thought-provoking vibe to your space, inviting contemplation and sparking curiosity and conversation about the unseen forces shaping reality.
Anthony Hodgson is a self-taught painter and visual artist who works primarily with pen, pastels, and acrylics, deeply influenced by his upbringing amidst religious art, fantasy, and sci-fi culture. His style fuses Surrealism, Existentialism, and Pop Art, blending symbolic dreamscapes, Celtic knots, contemporary icons, and mythic narratives to reveal the hidden tensions of existence. In each piece, he seeks to mirror the human condition, evoking a sense of redemption through brokenness and celebrating the mysterious interplay of darkness, light, and the hope that emerges from within our fractured lives.
