About this artwork
“Human cubes 750” consists of over 750 wooden cubes.
For this work of art, the artist first made a model from plasticine in order to transfer the complex movement of the sculpture into the wood.
The cubes were all individually sawn from solid wood and glued together in a complex process.
The combination of larch and linden tree results in a chessboard-like pattern on the surface.
Similar to the "human flow" series, the artist tries to approach… the human form by combining simple, geometric shapes and then working on the wood.
The surface of the sculpture is finely sanded and left natural.
All sculptures by Manfred Hellweger are unique.
